Singapore has always been labeled as an expensive country. This was the reason why I do not want to stay longer and explore the place because I have a tight budget. Singapore was the first country I visited for my month long travel. I was with my boyfriend who wanted to tag along even for just 2 days before I start my solo travel. (The reason why I needed to budget).

It was a quick getaway for us to travel together, and we only had 1 full day to visit the common tourist attractions in Singapore. And to tell you the truth, we did the usual ‘things to do in Singapore’ in a day minus the universal theme park, which is by the way, I wanted to do, but we did not have enough time to do it. At least I have a reason to go back to Singapore.

So if you have a lay over and a tight budget, this guide is perfect for you!

Where to go?

DAY TIME

Changi International Airport

We arrived in Singapore around 2AM. At this hour, the unlimited ticket ride was not yet available (opening time: 8AM). We stayed at Changi airport and tried its facility. The movie, the game station, their canteen, we went to the gardens, we even slept in the hallway with other travellers. No wonder it was labeled as the one of the best airport in the world.

Explore Little India

Our Accommodation is near Little India. During our visit, Deepavali or Diwali was celebrated (it is usually on October or November). It is an annual celebration known as Festival of Lights, where they celebrate the triumph of good over evil.

Also, if you like to shop, Mustafa Centre is a popular 24-hour shopping mall in Singapore.

Walk around Bugis Street

Bugis Street Market is one of the biggest and cheapest places to come shopping in Singapore. Aside from the fact that it is a hub of shopping, bugis street has buildings with old architecture.

Bugis Junction is also around the area. It is a shopping mall composed of 3 blocks of preserved pre-war shops.

Not also far from Bugis Street Market is the Albert Center. We tried to eat some of Singaporean Foods that are similar to Filipino Foods like Lomi (Lor mi in Singapore).

Head to China Town

A bustling area in Singapore. There are a lot of temples and museum in this side of the country. Not Chinese heritage but also Buddhist and Hindu.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple – It is a four-story red temple with an amazing Chinese architecture.

China Town Street Market – There are a lot shops too where you can buy cheap stuff. Also around the area you should try the Potong Ice Cream. We tried the red bean flavor.

China Town Food Street – We tried their own version og Ngohiong, it is called Ngo Hiang .

NIGHT TIME

Boat Quay

Where the Singapore River is located. It is also known for its vibrant night life. There are a lot of bars and restaurant located in the area.

Walk around Marina Bay and Take in the Amazing Architecture

You can view the marina bay sands casino resort, the art science museum, and the Sungapore Flyer.

The places below are the most popular:

Merlion Park –  This half mermaid-half lion is the mythical symbol of Singapore, and probably the most popular photo-op for tourist visiting in Singapore.

Gardens by the Bay (Supertree Grove)-  giant man-made tree structures that are covered in exotic plants and utilize solar energy which powers their lights every night.

Flower Dome and cloud forest –  You can see here the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, thousands of beautiful flowers and you can walk among the clouds. Opening hours: 9AM-9PM.
