I love to do day hiking. It is a very nice recreational activity that will help your body move, clear your mind, and connect with nature.

Luckily, I am currently living in Cebu which has a lot of day hikes options to choose from

Recently, I went on an 8-hour hike, and I had this crazy realization….while I was struggling, while I was out of breath, and while I can’t even feel my legs anymore because I was so tired…..


I wanted to give up but I found myself pushing so hard until we reached the end of our hike. I NEVER FELT SO ALIVE for the longest time.

I think that’s what I’ve been craving while being too comfortable in this slow-paced life.

I craved discomfort that will push me hard to do things I thought I couldn’t do. To experience things out of my comfort zone.

So I encourage you to seek discomfort from time to time. Maybe all you need a day hike like me.

Day Hike Essentials for Women

Hiking Footwear

I believe this is the most important thing during a hike.

What I have is a pair of Merell hiking shoes, and to be honest with you, the shoes didn’t do any good to my feet. Hahaha. During my recent hike, I was in so much pain especially during our descent.

So I’m going to buy a new pair of hiking shoes, and I am eyeing for a Salomon hiking shoes. I believe this is an affordable option that will help me during hikes. For sure, I will buy one of these:

Personally, I do not have socks that are suitable for hiking. And maybe if I have, it will be more comfortable to do trekking. So I guess, we all need a good pair of socks that is suitable for hiking.

Water bottle

Always bring a water bottle with you. Remember to keep hydrated especially on day hikes!

The water bottle I use is a Nalgene BPA Free Tritan Wide Mouth Water Bottle, but a good option is a CamelBak Hydration Backpack too. I saw hikers who use this too.

Day pack bag

To keep all you things in one place. I use a simple backpack from Quechua Day Pack Mini Bag. This bag just serves me right! The size is just perfect for a day hike!

Trail Snacks

We need food to provide the energy during the hike.

Here are healthy trail snacks you can bring:

  • Banana
  • Nuts
  • Dried fruits

Of course, you can bring any food you want that will make you a happy hiker!

Sun Protection

Of course, we need to protect our skin. Always put sunscreen, not only on day hikes!

I am currently using Belo Sunexpert Sunscreen SPF 50.

Other sun protection you can bring is a sunglasess, a cap, or a bandana!

Optional: Safe hiking items

  • Headlamp or flashlight
  • first aid kit
  • whistle
  • knife
  • lighter
  • Hand sanitizer & Mask
  • Tissue Paper
